Our instructors and C&G NPTC assessors are experienced arborists with more than 20 years of experience in the arboriculture industry. Hi-Line Training provides a wide range of ground-based, aerial and utility arboriculture courses and specialist arboriculture/forestry first aid training, in addition to multiple arboriculture, climbing and tree-related workshops.

For those starting their career

We offer a fast-track course, including chainsaw maintenance and cross-cutting (formerly CS30), felling up to 380 mm (formerly CS31), tree climbing and aerial rescue (formerly CS38), chainsaw from a rope and harness (formerly CS39) and forestry/arboriculture emergency first aid at work as a package. If you are looking at joining the utility arboriculture sector, we can include the specialist utility arboriculture qualifications.

For qualified tree surgeons and arborists

We offer more advanced courses, such as aerial tree pruning and aerial tree rigging, chainsaw refreshers and workshops, such as stationary rope techniques (SRT), advanced rigging and aerial rescue first aid.

For organisations wishing to provide additional training for their teams

we work with you to build bespoke team safety days, practical first aid workshops and aerial work updates, focusing on your unique requirements.

Our courses at a glance

Level 2 – Tree climbing and aerial rescue

This course is for anyone required to access or work in trees using ropes and harnesses or anyone required to rescue an injured climber.

Level 3 – Aerial tree pruning

This course is aimed at climbing arborists looking to improve their understanding of pruning techniques following industry good practice (BS 3998).

Level 2 – Chainsaw from a rope and harness

This course is aimed at people looking at a career as a climbing arborist or tree surgeon, or those wishing to operate a chainsaw from ropes safely.

Level 3 – Aerial tree rigging

This rigging course teaches the safest and most efficient techniques for removing tree sections when freefall cutting is not an option.

Level 3 – Emergency first aid at work +F

The course provides basic Level 3 emergency first aid at work, including “+F” topics such as catastrophic bleeds, crush injuries and extreme heat.

Level 2 – Chainsaw maintenance and cross-cutting

This two-day workshop is aimed at those required to use a chainsaw professionally or who want to learn how to operate one safely.

Level 2 – Felling small trees up to 380 mm

The course is aimed at people wanting to learn how to fell coniferous or broadleaved trees up to 380 mm and to process them safely and efficiently.

Ground-based units – Tree species recognition, ground-based pruning and assisted felling

This course will provide you with the specific skills and knowledge needed to carry out ground-based arboricultural work safely.

Tree species recognition, ground-based pruning, assisted felling and aerial pruning

This course, split into four units, is to provide specific skills and knowledge to candidates required to safely carry out arboricultural work.

UA – Basic electrical knowledge

This course is for those wishing to embark on a career in the utility-arboriculture sector or those working with trees near live overhead power lines.
